EYFS Curriculum Information
‘Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfill their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in it’s own right. Good parenting and high-quality early learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up.’
At Overfields Primary, we recognise the importance of giving our children the best possible start to their education and place great value on the development of our children as individuals. We strive for each individual to achieve their full, unique potential. We believe in creating a strong partnership with parents and carers, warm and positive relationships between staff and children and in establishing consistent routines across EYFS.
Your child will follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. This sets the standards for the learning, development, and care of your child. There are seven areas of learning and development in the EYFS curriculum. Three areas are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive, to ensure children are ready for their next stage in their school journey. These three areas, the prime areas, are:
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
We also support children in four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied. The specific areas are:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
