PSHE (including RSE)
PSHE or Personal, social, health and economic education is an important and necessary part of all pupils’ education.
At Overfields Primary school, we ensure that our children are given the education to provide them with the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy, safe and equipped for adult life. We strive to prepare our children to be lifelong learners who make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships.
This is developed through quality teaching with our school vision at the forefront: To stay healthy and safe, to be aspirational, to be respectful and caring and to have secure basic skills in English and maths. Children at Overfields Primary understand the importance of positive relationships and are able to interact with all members of the school community as well as visitors.

Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)
All primary schools now have new statutory requirements relating to Relationship and Sex education (RSE). We have incorporated compulsory RSE elements into our PSHE curriculum. At Overfields Primary, our curriculum is made up of eight strands: Relationships, My body and My Health, Life Cycles, Keeping Safe and Looking After Myself, People Who Help Me, Feelings and Attitudes, Mental Well-being and Living in our World. Each strand is delivered in a variety of creative ways. This may be through discrete lessons, within a cross curricular approach, through class/group discussions and circles time and assemblies.
Our curriculum is based around 8 strands that all overlap and form out RSHE learning outcomes.
We enhance our curriculum by using interactive resources, sharing story books that deepen the children’s understanding and link to real life experiences. We additionally work with the wider community and plan for visitors with expertise and experience to come into school to work with the children. As a school, we learn about and support charities throughout the year. We also have special days and weeks such as ‘Healthy Living Week’ and ‘Anti-Bullying Week’ where we plan activities to do as a whole school.
Our PSHE curriculum is delivered to class year groups but we ensure content is age appropriate and sensitive to each cohort, adapting where needed. Ultimately, we want Children from Overfields Primary school to be become more resilient, confident and determined to dream of their goals, believe they can succeed and achieve them throughout their lives by being the best they can be.
To help deliver our RSE curriculum, we use a resource called ‘Growing up with Yasmine and Tom. You can read more information about how this resource is used in school and the topics it covers by clicking the image. You can visit the Yasmine and Tom website here.
